I bought the first album 'The Way You Are' after hearing
one of the tracks - 'A Different Song' - when Stavia was interviewed on the
Johnny Walker show a couple of years ago. I loved the album and practically wore
it out. I was surprised not to have heard more of her music on air.
The second album seemed a long time coming, but has been
worth the wait. Unlike many second albums, 'Deep Waters' shows an artist in
bloom, taking her music even beyond the first, excellent album. Deep Waters is a
truly wonderful album which I strongly recommend to anyone who enjoys well
crafted songs, astute lyrics and tasteful musicianship. What is the music like?
Not like anything else really - some of the songs are reminiscent of Fleetwood
Mac's best; Stavia's voice is refreshingly individual - clear and unaffected, a
cross between Carly Simon and Eva Cassidy; whilst the band and production add
just the right musical touches in just the right places. This is pop-rock (with
a touch of folk) at its very best.
